How Equipment Removal Works

Here’s what to expect from your first call to a cleared space that’s ready for what comes next.

Call or Request Online

Call 508-419-9010 or request service online. Tell us what’s coming out, where it sits, whether it’s gas or electric, and whether new equipment is going in. For walk ins or anything on the roof, we’ll set up a site visit first so removal day has no surprises.

Schedule Your Removal

We schedule around your service hours and your new equipment’s delivery date. On Cape Cod, most removals and replacements happen in the off season, when a kitchen can be down for a day without costing a summer weekend.

Disconnect & Remove

Utilities are shut off and disconnected safely, with licensed trades where required. Refrigerant is recovered by EPA Section 608 certified technicians, and the equipment is removed without damage to your space and routed for recycling rather than the landfill.

Test, Document, & Follow Up

We confirm the space is clean and safe, leftover connections are capped or removed, and you receive documentation of refrigerant recovery and disposal. If new equipment is going in, the installation follows on schedule.

Highly Skilled Technicians

Harris Warren technicians train through Tech24 University on every equipment category, from cooking lines to walk in refrigeration, so they know how each one is connected and how to take it apart safely.

EPA-Compliant Refrigerant Recovery

Refrigeration and ice equipment contain regulated refrigerants. Our EPA Section 608 certified technicians recover them with certified equipment and document the recovery, as federal rules require.

Clean, Compliant Removal

Removals are planned before the truck arrives, so floors, doorways and walls are protected and old equipment is recycled in line with Massachusetts disposal rules rather than dumped.

Planned Maintenance Programs

Replacing what you’re removing? Enroll the new equipment in a planned maintenance program from day one to prevent breakdowns and extend its service life.

All Fuel Types & Configurations

Gas, propane, electric and steam equipment of every brand, from a countertop warmer to a walk in cooler with a rooftop condensing unit.

Cape Cod And Plymouth County Coverage

Harris Warren removes equipment across all of Barnstable and Plymouth Counties from West Yarmouth, from Wellfleet and Harwich Port to Sandwich, Wareham and Plymouth, with one local team for removal and installation.

Why are there still pipes, bolts and duct stubs left from an old removal?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

High

The original removal stopped at the equipment and left mounting hardware, uncapped utility stubs or abandoned ductwork behind. Those are trip hazards, potential gas or water leaks and inspection problems. Have them properly capped, removed or sealed, and make sure your next removal includes clearing the space.
Why can't old refrigeration equipment just be hauled away?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

High

Refrigerators, freezers, ice machines and walk ins contain refrigerant that federal rules prohibit venting. It has to be recovered with certified equipment by an EPA Section 608 certified technician before the unit is scrapped. Releasing it can bring fines. Harris Warren recovers the refrigerant and documents it.
Why shouldn't my staff disconnect equipment before it's removed?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

High

Live gas, electrical and water connections are where removals go wrong: a loosened gas connector, a cut wire left energized or a supply line left open under a sink. In Massachusetts, gas work must be done by a licensed gas fitter or plumber, and electrical by a licensed electrician. Leave the disconnects to us and the trades we coordinate.
Why does it matter when the old equipment comes out?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

Medium

If the old unit leaves before the new one is ready, your kitchen runs short for days. Coordinating removal with delivery and installation, ideally in the off season on Cape Cod, keeps downtime to a single visit. Book removal and installation together.
Why is removing a walk in cooler harder than removing a reach in?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

Medium

A walk in is a building within a building: insulated panels that have to be unlocked and taken apart, a refrigeration system with refrigerant to recover, a condensing unit that may sit on the roof, and electrical feeds to disconnect. Plan it as a project, not a pickup. Call us to walk the site first.
What do I do with the oil in a fryer that's being removed?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

Medium

Let it cool completely, then drain it into your used cooking oil container for your grease recycler. Hot oil causes serious burns, and oil left in a fryer spills during moving. Tell us when you book, and we’ll schedule removal after the oil is out and the unit is cool.
Can old kitchen equipment go in the dumpster in Massachusetts?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

Medium

Usually not. Massachusetts bans large appliances, known as white goods, and scrap metal from landfills and trash incinerators, so most commercial kitchen equipment has to be recycled instead. A hauler may refuse it or charge extra. Harris Warren removes it and routes it for proper recycling.
Why do I need documentation for equipment I no longer own?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

Low

EPA rules require a record that refrigerant was recovered before disposal, and landlords, insurers and your own asset records may ask for proof that equipment left properly. Documentation also closes out warranty and lease records. Harris Warren provides it with every removal.
